Provider initiated preterm birth

Preterm birth may be planned when māmā/person and/or pēpē wellbeing is compromised and it is considered that early birth, instead of ongoing pregnancy, is safest for māmā/person and/or pēpē. Preterm birth for these indications may be referred to as medically-indicated, iatrogenic or provider initiated. This section of Taonga Tuku Iho considers the main conditions that commonly contribute to provider initiated preterm birth. For each condition, information and recommendations on identification of risk; prevention and modification of risk; management to optimise care and limit the need for preterm birth and; indications for preterm birth are included.
